Hundreds of Justin Bieber’s fans, the Beliebers, gathered on Twitter Saturday to mourn Alicia Tamboia of Wingdale, New York, after the 24-year-old died in a car crash. She was considered one of the Canadian singer’s biggest fans and apparently helped other Bieber admirers connect with the superstar, GossipCop wrote.
She was pronounced dead at the scene just before midnight on the Fourth of July after a serious multivehicle accident on Interstate 90 near Albany, the Poughkeepsie Journal reported. The Volkswagen in which she was a passenger was hit by another vehicle and spun into a tractor-trailer.
#RIPAlicia became a top trending topic when news of her death spread. Fans began to express their condolences with the hashtag.
Though he was active on Twitter Saturday, Bieber did not immediately address the news on his account.
When 6-year-old Bieber fan Avalanna Routh died in September 2012 after suffering from a rare brain cancer, the star tweeted about the young girl’s passing. “Just got the worst news ever,” Bieber tweeted after her death, the New York Daily News reported. “One of the greatest spirits I have ever known is gone. Please pray for her family and for her.”
He called her “my angel” and said “RIP Avalanna. I love you.”
Some of the people who used the #RIPAlicia hashtag also referenced “Mrs. Bieber” Avalanna. A few of their posts can be seen below:
