Today’s sign that we’re all getting old: Kobe Bryant’s newest Los Angeles Lakers teammate — Kentucky freshman Julius Randle – was one years old when Kobe was drafted in 1996.
And like any future basketball player born in 1994, Randle, who was taken with the No. 7 pick in Thursday’s NBA draft, grew up a fan of the then-young Lakers superstar. He even has a #throwbackthursday picture of himself wearing a Kobe jersey (back before the Black Mambaswitched to No. 24). Randle posted the picture after he learned he’d be taking his talents to Hollywood.
Somewhere in the world there’s a toddler currently taking his first, tentative steps. Though it’s hard to wrap your head around the concept, that baby could one day be playing on the same professional basketball team as Randle, Andrew Wiggins or Joel Embiid.
